First of all，I was impressed by his devotion to teaching. Because his lectures were always well-prepared and clearly delivered， students swarmed into his classroom. His followers appreciated the fact that he believed in what he taught and that he was intellectually stimulating.Furthermore， he could be counted on to explain his ideas in an imaginative way，introducing such aids to understanding as paintings， recordings，pieces of sculpture， and guest lecturers.
Once he even sang a song in class to illustrate a point. Second， I admired the fact that he would confer with students outside of the classroom or talk with them on the telephone. Drinking coffee in the snack bar， he would easily make friends with students. Sometimes he would challenge a student to a game of chess. At other times， he would join groups to discuss subjects ranging from astronomy to scuba diving. Many young people visited him in his office for academic advice； others came to his home for social evenings.
Finally，I was attracted by his lively wit. He believed that no class hour is a success unless the students and the professor share several chuckles and at least one loud laugh.Through his sense of humor， he made learning more enjoyable and more lasting.If it is true that life makes a wise man smile and a foolish man cry，then my friend is truly a wise man. one day in the summer of last year, wang, my friend, was watching a football match with his father.the match was too eciting for his father＇s heart to bear so he suddenly fell down to the ground for the heart attack. 120 was soon dialed but wang＇s father passed away at last. it was too cruel for wang to see his father die in front of him, and also too difficult for me to accept the fact, because just several hours before his death, he picked wang and me up at pu dong airport and sent us back home. at that time, he was so healthy that no one would epect that he would die a few hours later.
a few days later, i found something wrong with my body.it was a cyst as big as a coin found under my cheek. i felt very worried because, as i know, a cyst in that place was very dangerous. i was put into hospital after the doctor decided to remove it. after i entered the room of patients, i was jaw dropping because the looks of the patients were frightening, one person has a lump as big as a baseball on his face; another patient＇s eyes were bruised too badly to be seen and an old man＇s teeth had been all knocked off because the doctor would do an operation in his throat. i felt lucky and was even satisfied with my illness in this situation.
life is really precious and delicate.some people are bornblind or deaf. some pass away in a minute. some live in great pain even they are alive. we have no qualification to complain about some little unfairness in our life if we are healthy.we should care for our lives and make use of it as plentifully as possible.

My friend Liu Hua bought two T-Shirts and she gave one to me. I took the shirt and saw the words,"Don＇t grndge yonrse]f." Seeing me wearing this shirt, the passers by would read out and say,"See, what good words have been written on the girl＇s shirt!"
All at once I seemed to be enlightened. I seemed never to have grudged mysclf anything and sccmcd to make others see the light. I seemed to hold my head higher than before.

on one hand, welfare lottery encourages people to do small kindness for the welfare of others as well as for the profit of oneself. when we read the daily newspapers, we are frequently appraised of the "big kindness" performed by well-to-do philanthropists who donate large sums of money for the establishment of schools, libraries, free hospitals for the poor, orphanages,and the like. these, of course, are laudable acts of charity that deserve wide public acclaim. but in my estimation, not all the people have the financial ability to support these "big kindness",and those many minor acts of kindness performed daily in different situations by public minded citizens who receive no recognition or praise from the mass media are equally commendable.similarly, welfare lottery provide the majority of people a chance to perform this kind of small kindness.
on the other hand, in a large city like shanghai, where the general tendency of the people is "to look out only for one＇s own", the atmosphere is cold and miserable for those unable to keep up with the rapid pace of competitions. by launching a personal campaign such as welfare lottery, we can try to remedy the present situation and to make our society a much better place to live in.
however, every coin has two sides.lottery,inevitably,has some side effects. as to the general criticism that it encourages some people＇s opportunistic attitudes and makes them unwilling to make a living by finding a job, i believe that the ta system in our society will keep the necessary balance between the poor and the rich, thus maintains the stability and unity of our country.
recognition of a problem is the first step toward its solution. since we are now generally aware of the advantages and disadvantages of lottery, it seems necessary that we improve this scheme to meet the public needs. if we are to succeed as a society in 21st century, a better society atmosphere should be created.

Fire Prevention on Campus
People are alarmed by the succession of campus fires in recent years. In each of these accidents, heavy casualties were reported - houses were burned down, students lost their lives, and properties were damaged. A brief survey of them reveals that human factors still prove to be the leading causes. For example, three of these fires were caused by the students use of electric water-heaters. As students often leave the heaters unattended, the risks are rather high should the water in the bottle boil dry while no one is around to turn off the power. In other cases, fires were also caused by stoves, candles, cigarette butts, etc.
Since most of these disasters could have been prevented if proper precautions had been taken, students should be better educated on the importance and measures of fire control. The following three reminders are of particular importance for us students: First, learn how to use a fire extinguisher. Second, double-check candles, heaters, stoves and other electric appliances, and make sure there are no open flames before leaving rooms. Lastly, do not smoke in the dorm.
