學(xué)生公寓里的電視機(jī) (tv receivers in students flats)
nowadays an increasing number of students flats have tv receivers installed in them. tv presents a vivid world in front of tudents. boys could enjoy sports games at will. some programs help students recharge (再充電) their knowledge and keep them abreast of(跟上) modern developments. tv receivers enrich their learning life.
obviously, students are not free from any troubles. some students are addicted to(沉溺于) tv. tv receivers in some flats are still on late at night or never turned off on weekends. some students spend much spare time watching tv programs, which is seriously interfering with their responsibilities at school. still some students eyes are getting worse.
in my opinion, moderation (適度,適可而止) is the key to everything including watching tv programs. i would not recommend that students try to eliminate tv receivers totally from their flats. however, we need to strike some kind of a balance between the tv programs and school studies. learning to successfully manage time at a young age will definitely pay off in later life.
its never too late for success
most youngsters are pessimistic about their future, because they don’t see any talent in any direction, but whatsoever the situation is, everyone has its own advantage in some special field.
the success is more and more important accompanying the competition is more and more severe; therefore youngsters take on so much pressure in the society. some people think that they can’t be successful just because they don’t want to try for what should be said as inferiority. life is like a chocolate bo; you never know what’s in it when you open it.
thinking from another side, success for one person is not always success for another, so each young person should make sure that they are striving to accomplish their life’s work through avenues that they are most interested in. every person who is successful, in the past, has had an inner drive that sustained him or her through the tough times of his or her life’s work. success will come to those who will forge out in life with an optimistic viewpoint, doing what they were created to do, and enjoying the fruit of their labor.
every one of us has possesses a skill that is valuable. what we have to do is updating our knowledge and eploiting our idea, bringing it into effect. now, go out and do it.
College Pressure
I see two kinds of pressure working on college students today: economic pressure, parental pressure. It is easy to look around for rebels-- to blame the colleges for charging too much money, the parents for pushing their children too far. But there are no rebels, only victims.
The pressure is heavy on students who just want to graduate and get a job. If I were an employer I would rather employ graduates who have this range and curiosity than those who narrowly pursued safe subjects and high grades. I know incalculable students whose inquiring minds cheer me. I like to hear the play of their ideas. I don‘t know if they are getting A or C, and I don‘t care. I also like them as people. The country needs them, and they will find satisfying jobs. I tell them to relax. They can‘t.
Nor can I blame them. They live in a brutal economy.Today it is not unusual for a student, even if he works part time at college and full time during the summer, to increase to 5, 000 in loans after graduation. Encouraged at commencemerit to go forth into the world, he is already behind as he goes forth. How could he not feel under pressure throughout college to prepare for this day of reckoning?
Along with economic pressure goes parental pressure.Inevitably, the two are deeply integrated.
Poor students! They are caught in one of the oldest webs of love and duty and guilt. The parents mean well: they are trying to steer their sons and daughters toward a secure future. But the sons and daughters want to major in history or classics or philosophy-- subjects with no "practical" value.Where‘s the payoff on the humanities? It‘s not easy to persuade such loving parents that the humanities do indeed pay off. The intellectual faculties developed by studying subjects like history and classics are just the faculties that make creative leaders in business or almost any general field.
Luckily for me, most of them got into their field by an indirect route, to their surprise, after many roundabout ways. The students are startled. They can hardly conceive of a career that was not preplanned. They can hardly imagine allowing the hand of God or chance to nudge them down some unforeseen trail.
Many factors may make a contribution toone’s success, such as diligence, honesty, patience, responsibility and so on.Besides, as far as I am concerned, self-confidence is also an important and indispensable factor to contribute to one’s success.
The following reasons can account for my above opinion. First,self-confidence is a kind of self-affirmation for our ability. A successful manis bound to believe in himself first so that he has courage and power to make some achievements. On the contrary, if he has great ability but does not believe himself enough, he will not be able to play his ability and power or at least can’t play fully. Second, self-confidence is a great motivation for us to keep trying and keep going. A self-confident man will try his best to achieveh is goal again and again rather than say “no” or give up when he is confronted with hardship. In addition, a self-confident but not arrogant man usually brings some positive influence to the whole situation in a team. People around the man will be affected by his confidence and become confident for their teamwork.
In summary, self-confidence is a significant character and quality in one’s success. Therefore, we should try to develop our confidence but not arrogance to some extent so that we can succeed in our study or work.
My Dormitory Life
Compared with the forty year old shabby dormitory I am living in now, the one I lived in for three years in high school was heaven: three students shared one brand new suite with air conditioners and a bathroom.
In three years time we changed it thoroughly:the color of the floor turned from bright pink into muddy gray, and the closet a hive of insects proliferating among piles of rotten fruit. And our masterpiece was the bathroom, a never drying swamp which served as the habitat of various kinds of mold, and even rodents, rats would occasionally take the trouble to pay us a visit, and.., all three of us felt like sobbing when we at last had to say good bye to our lovely filthy dormitory. Maybe it is because that the dormitory had changed us as well as we'd changed it.
The first lesson our dormitory taught us was to look after ourselves. Frankly speaking, we were not good students at all. I still remember the underwear that was soaked in soapy water for one and a half years before it was finally thrown away. Almost each of the boys' dormitories had gradually developed its own unique "fragrance" usually a mixture of rotten fruit, unwashed socks, stunk towels and some junk food. We could tell one dormitory from another by sniffing instead of looking. Our tolerance towards untidiness was amazing.
However, in spite of all this, we really did make some progress. Bit by bit, we started to wash dirty clothes before they stunk, cleaned the garbage bin when it could hold no more trash, we even used brushes in a not-sc-successful attempt to refurbish the floor. The point was that we were not obeying any order, we did every bit of the cleaning for ourselves, because we wanted to live in a better place. Though nothing we did could be called an achievement, it was the first time we fully bore the consequences of our behavior, and took the responsibility.
Thus it was not surprising that I often found myself the only one to clean up my university dormitory which looked no better than a garbage bin when my roommates felt normal of it.
When talking about our dormitory life, and probably all the dormitory life, we should never leave out one thing. This was what we called "bed talks". Though it was considered "illegal,"there was nothing to stop us from deliberately starting a heated discussion right after lights were out. It was our favorite and the only way of ending our day, and we were as punctual for it as our parents are for work. What was the most common topic?Girls, of course! What other topics were there for three energetic adolescent males lying comfortably in bed? We judged them, ranked them, argued over them night after night without feeling the slightest sense of boredom for three whole years. Were we
maniacs? Who is not a maniac at eighteen?
