大學英語作文 篇1

Sports are flourishing in china now. More and more people are willing to take part in sports of different kinds, such as table-tennis, football, volleyball, and so on. Every year there are many matches played on the city, provincial or national level. Sports are no longer limited to a few professional players. Early in the morning people may be seen doing exercise. Martial arts (like Chinese boxing or swordplay) which formerly were cultivated for self-defense, now have become a form of physical exercise and are practiced in parks, streets, gardens, or on campuses. In addition young and old people are also often seen running in order to build up their bodies. China promotes sports to enhance the physical condition of its people; she is formulating policies to provide encouragement of this activity. She awards prizes to the excellent players for the best records both in china and the world. In the world the Chinese have become a strong people instead of “the weaklings of East Asia”.

大學英語作文 篇2

the bustle of the hospital was a welcome distraction as i opened my new patients chart and headed for her room. my son, eric, had just brought home a disappointing report card, and my daughter, shannon, and i had argued again about her getting a drivers license. for the net eight hours i wanted to throw myself into helping people who i knew had much more to worry about than i did.

rebekah was only 32, admitted for chemotherapy after breast-cancer surgery, when i entered her room it took me a moment to spot her amid the bouncing forms of three giggling little girls.

i told rebekah i would be her nurse and she introduced her husband, warren; si-year-old ruthie; four-year-old hannah; and two-year-old molly. warren coaed the girls away from their mother with a promise of ice cream and assured rebekah they would return the net day.

as i rubbed alcohol on her arm to prepare it for the intravenous line, rebekah laughed nervously. i have to tell you im terrified of needles. itll be over before you know it, i said. ill give you a count of three.

rebekah shut her eyes tightly and murmured a prayer until it was over. then she smiled and squeezed my hand. before you go, could you get my bible from the table? i handed her the worn book. do you have a favorite bible verse? she asked. jesus wept. john 11: 35. such a sad one, she said. why?

it makes me feel closer to jesus, knowing he also eperienced human sorrow.

rebekah nodded thoughtfully and started flipping through her bible as i shut the door quietly behind me.

during the following months i watched rebekah struggle with the ravages of chemotherapy. her hospital stays became frequent and she worried about her children. meanwhile i continued to contend with raising my own kids. they always seemed either out or holed up in their rooms. i missed the days when they were as attached to me as rebekahs little girls were to her.

for a time it had seemed rebekahs chemotherapy was working. then doctors discovered another malignant lump. two months later, a chest -ray revealed the cancer had spread to her lungs. it was terminal. help me to help her through this, i prayed.

one day when i entered her room, i found her talking into a tape recorder. she picked up a yellow legal pad and held it out to me. im making a tape for my daughters, she said.

i read the list on her pad: starting school, confirmation, turning 16, first date, graduation. while i worried how to help her deal with death, she was planning for her childrens future.

she usually waited until the early hours of the morning to record the tapes so she could be free from interruptions. she filled them with family stories and advice?trying to cram a lifetime of love into a few precious hours. finally, every item in her notes had been checked off and she entrusted the tapes to her husband.

i often wondered what i would say in her place. my kids joked that i was like an fbi agent, with my constant questions about where theyd been and who theyd been with. where, i thought, are my words of encouragement and love?

it was three oclock one afternoon when i got an urgent call from the hospital. rebekah wanted me to come immediately with a blank tape. what topic has she forgotten? i wondered.

she was flushed and breathing hard when i entered her room. i slipped the tape into the recorder and held the microphone to her lips. ruthie, hannah, molly?this is the most important tape. she held my hand and closed her eyes. someday your daddy will bring home a new mommy. please make her feel special. show her how to take care of you. ruthie, honey, help her get your brownie uniform ready each tuesday. hannah, tell her you dont want meat sauce on your spaghetti. she wont know you like it separate. molly, dont get mad if theres no apple juice. drink something else. its okay to be sad, sweeties. jesus cried too. he knows about sadness and will help you to be happy again. remember, ill always love you.

i shut off the recorder and rebekah sighed deeply. thank you, nan, she said with a weak smile. youll give this one to them, wont you? she murmured as she slid into sleep.

a time would come when the tape would be played for rebekahs children, but right then, after i smoothed rebekahs blanket, i got in my car and hurried home. i thought of how my shannon also liked her sauce on the side and suddenly that quirk, which had annoyed me so many times, seemed to make her so much more precious. that night the kids didnt go out; they sat with me long after the spaghetti sauce had dried onto the dishes. and we talked ? without interrogations, without complaints?late into the night.

大學英語作文 篇4

  The Toilet Tank

Stanley had just finished brushing his teeth. He noticed water flowing into the toilet bowl. That's strange, he thought. The water continued to seep into the bowl. Stanley lifted the toilet tank top. The tank was half full, but the water was slowly rising. What in the world is going on, he wondered. He had not just flushed the toilet. He continued to watch the water rise in the tank. The water got up to the Water Line mark in the tank, where it was supposed to stop rising. But it continued to rise.

Stanley was alarmed. Is this thing going to overflow, he wondered. He went into his bedroom and grabbed some towels. When he returned to the bathroom, the toilet was silent. The water had stopped rising at one inch above the water line. But that was only about two inches below the top of the tank. That was too close for comfort. Stanley put two and two together. He had heard water running for more than a week now, but he had assumed it was his neighbor’s toilet. Now he knew it was his own.

He called Henry the handyman. Henry was a really nice guy. His rates were much cheaper than a regular plumber’s rates. Henry said he’d be over the next day. The next day, Henry arrived only 30 minutes late, which was “on time” for Henry. He tried to turn off the toilet tank shutoff valve on the bathroom wall, but the valve was “frozen.” “We don’t want to mess with that,” he told Stanley. “That valve is too easy to bust, and it would take a lot of work to put a new one on.”

Henry went out to the front of the apartment building and turned off the main water valve. No one was home in the building except Stanley, so Henry didn’t have to warn the neighbors about the shutoff. Back in the bathroom, Henry flushed the toilet. Then he used a couple of rags to dry and clean the bottom of the toilet tank. He unscrewed the plastic Fluidmaster 400A Fill Valve and removed it. He replaced it with a new fill valve. “When the water keeps running, it’s usually your fill valve. It could also be the flapper, but your flapper looks okay. Plus, it’s a weird-looking flapper. I’d probably have to special order it.”

Henry tightened the plastic nut below the tank, securing the fill valve. “You mustn't over-tighten this, because it’ll break,” he said. “In the old days, we used rubber gaskets and metal nuts and washers. Nowadays, everything is cheap plastic.” He went back outside, turned on the main valve, and returned. He flushed the toilet, waited for the bowl to refill and for the new fill valve to shut off the water. It shut off exactly at the Water Line mark.

“We got lucky,” Henry said. “I don’t have to fiddle around adjusting the fill valve. That’s good, because I’m a little late for another job right now.” Henry flushed the toilet again, and watched the bowl and the tank fill. "That does it," he told Stanley. Stanley thanked him and paid him.

Three hours later, Stanley noticed a puddle of water, hardly bigger than a quarter, on the bathroom floor. He called Henry, who said the plastic nut just needed a little tightening. But because he was working all that day on another job, he wouldn’t be able to come over until tomorrow. He told Stanley to put a big plastic bowl under the tank and not to worry. “It’s just a tiny leak. Your bathroom won’t get flooded.”

大學英語作文 篇5

directions: you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition of a bout 100 words on the topic love on campus. you must base your composition on the outline given below.

  1. some people think too much intimacy has a bad influ.

  2. some people don't agree.

  3. what is your opinion?

  love on campus

on campus, lovers can be found here and there. they are very intimate with each other sometimes. some people think too much intimacy has a bad influence. it takes lovers too much time and energy. then how about their studies? furthermore, their intimacy can aisc distract their own as well as other students' attention from study. campus should be a place for study and should maintain an atmosphere of learning.

on the other hand, other people believe it is ok. pursuing love is all right to studentson campus and intimacy is a natural epression of love. some scholars of law hold that friendships and appropriate intimacy are an important pard of student development. a sociologist says, "students' right to self-epression should be respected."

in my opinion, what all people should do is just leave it as it is. university students are adults, and they can handle their own affairs well enough. however, they have to admit that school is a place where people receive an education and their main task is to study. therefore, students are epected to behave themselves in proper ways.
