　　About daily life: I have a wide range of hobbies, especially sports and reading.

　　Sport: We have very good sports facilities in our college, I play badminton every Tuesday, and play basketball every Friday. I think that sports is the best flavor of our life, it can release the pressure and relax our mood.

　　I am a third year master major in automation at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, P. R. China. With tremendous interest in Industrial Engineering, I am writing to apply for acceptance into your Ph.D. graduate program.

　　Education background

　　In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology (NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. During the following undergraduate study, my academic records kept distinguished among the whole department. I was granted First Class Prize every semester,In 1999, I got the privilege to enter the graduate program waived of the admission test.

　　At the period of my graduate study, my overall GPA(3.77/4.0) ranked top 5% in the department. In the second semester, I became teacher assistant that is given to talented and matured students only. This year, I won the Acer Scholarship as the one and only candidate in my department, which is the ultimate accolade for distinguished students endowed by my university. Presently, I am preparing my graduation thesis and trying for the honor of Excellent Graduation Thesis.

　　Research experience and academic activity

　　When a sophomore, I joined the Association of AI Enthusiast and began to narrow down my interest for my future research. With the tool of OpenGL and Matlab, I designed a simulation program for transportation scheduling system. It is now widely used by different research groups in NUST. I assumed and fulfilled a sewage analysis & dispose project for Nanjing sewage treatment plant. This was my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.

　　In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory and experience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program. My future research interests include: Network Scheduling Problem, Heuristic Algorithm research (especially in GA and Neural network), Supply chain network research, Hybrid system performance analysis with Petri nets and Data Mining.

　　今學期我擔任初一級七班語文教學。由于教學經(jīng)驗尚淺。因此，我對教學工作不敢怠慢，認真學習，深入研究教法，虛心向前輩學習。經(jīng)過一個學期的努力，獲取了很多寶貴的教學經(jīng)驗。以下是我在本學期的教學狀況總結。

　　教學就是教與學，兩者是相互聯(lián)系，不可分割的，有教者就必然有學者。學生是被教的主體。因此，了解和分析學生狀況，有針對地教對教學成功與否至關重要。最初接觸教學的時候，我還不懂得了解學生對教學的重要性，只是專心研究書本，教材，想方設法令課堂生動，學生易理解。

　　一方面，農(nóng)村的學生聽，說的潛力相對較弱，授課采用較深的普通話教學，同學們還不能適應。而用廣州話教學，又削弱語文語感教學的功能。另一方面，七班的同學比較活躍，上課氣氛用心，但中等生、差生占較大多數(shù)，尖子生相對較少。因此，講得太深，沒有照顧到整體，我備課時也沒有注意到這點，因此教學效果不如理想。從此能夠看出，了解及分析學生實際狀況，實事求是，具體問題具體分析，做到因材施教，對授課效果有直接影響。這就是教育學中提到的“備教法的同時要備學生”。這一理論在我的教學實踐中得到了驗證。

　　教學中，備課是一個必不可少，十分重要的環(huán)節(jié)，備學生，又要備教法。備課不充分或者備得不好，會嚴重影響課堂氣氛和用心性，曾有一位前輩對我說：“備課備不好，倒不如不上課，否則就是白費心機。”我明白到備課的重要性，因此，每一天我都花費超多的時間在備課之上，認認真真鉆研教材和教法，不滿意就不收工。雖然辛苦，但事實證明是值得的。

　　一堂準備充分的課，會令學生和老師都獲益不淺。例如我在講授『安塞腰鼓』的時候，這課的主題是“認識和理解安塞腰鼓”，教學難度比較大。如果照本宣科地講授，學生會感到困難和沉悶。為了上好這堂課，我認真研究了課文，找出了重點，難點，準備有針對性地講。為了令教學生動，不沉悶，我還為此準備了超多的教具，授課時就胸有成竹了。當講到一半的時候，我拿出準備好的錄象帶，讓學生觀摩學習，學生個性用功，教學效果十分理想。相反，我沒有認真?zhèn)湔n的時候，課堂氣氛沉悶，教學效果不好，與此相比可見，認真?zhèn)湔n對教學十分重要。

　　備課充分，能調(diào)動學生的用心性，上課效果就好。但同時又要有駕馭課堂的潛力，因為學生在課堂上的一舉一動都會直接影響課堂教學。因此上課必須要設法令學生投入，不讓其分心，這就很講究方法了。上課資料豐富，現(xiàn)實。教態(tài)自然，講課生動，難易適中照顧全部，就自然能夠吸引住學生。所以，老師每一天都要有充足的精神，讓學生感受到一種自然氣氛。這樣，授課就事半功倍。回看自己的授課，我感到有點愧疚，因為有時我并不能很好地做到這點。當學生在課堂上無心向?qū)W，違反紀律時，我的情緒就受到影響，并且把這帶到教學中，讓原本正常的講課受到?jīng)_擊，發(fā)揮不到應有的水平，以致影響教學效果。我以后務必努力克服，研究方法，采取有利方法解決當中困難。

　　語文是一門工具學科，對學生而言，既熟悉又困難，在這樣一種大環(huán)境之下，要教好語文，就要讓學生喜愛語文，讓他們對語文產(chǎn)生興趣。否則學生對這門學科產(chǎn)生畏難情緒，不愿學，也無法學下去。為此，我采取了一些方法，就是盡量多講一些文化生活故事，讓他們更了解語文，更喜歡學習語文。因為只有語文水平提高，他們才能提高同學們的語文寫作潛力，對成績優(yōu)秀的同學很有好處。

　　因為語文的特殊狀況，學生在不斷學習中，會出現(xiàn)好差分化現(xiàn)象，差生面擴大，會嚴重影響班內(nèi)的學習風氣。因此，絕對不能忽視。為此，我制定了具體的計劃和目標。對這部分同學進行有計劃的輔導。我把這批同學分為三個組。第一組是有潛力提高，但平時懶動腦筋不學的同學，對這些同學，我采取群眾輔導，給他們分配固定任務，不讓他們有偷懶的機會，讓他們發(fā)揮應有水平;第二組是肯學，但由于潛力不強的同學。對這部分同學要適當引導，耐心教導，慢慢提高他們的成績，不能操之過急，且要多鼓勵。只要他們肯努力，成績有望搞提高;第三組是紀律松散，學習不認真，基礎又不好的同學。對這部分人要進行課余時間個別輔導。因為這部分同學需要一個安靜而又不受干擾的.環(huán)境，才會立下心來學習。只要堅持輔導，這些同學基礎重新建立起來，以后授課的效果就會更好。

　　語文是語言。困此，除了課堂效果之外，還需要讓學生多讀，多講，多練。為此，在早讀時，我堅持下班了解早讀狀況，發(fā)現(xiàn)問題及時糾正。課后發(fā)現(xiàn)學生作業(yè)問題也及時解決，及時講清楚，讓學生即時消化。另外，對部分不自覺的同學還采取強硬背誦等方式，提高他們的潛力。

　　經(jīng)過一個學期的努力，期末考就是一種考驗。無論成績高低，都體現(xiàn)了我在這學期的教學成果。我明白到這并不是最重要的，重要的是在本學期后如何自我提高，如何共同提高學生的語文水平。因此，無論怎樣辛苦，我都會繼續(xù)努力，多問，多想，多向前輩學習，爭取進步。

　　I’m glad to introduce myself to you. My Chinese name is Ma Lin, but you can call me Rock, my English name. I chose Rock to be my English name because I want to be as tough as a rock. I was born and raised in Guangdong, so I speak both Cantonese and Mandarin.

　　I’ll soon graduate from Zhongshan University, majoring in accounting. I think you may have interviewed quite a lot of students from our school, so you know this major prepares us for CGA and most courses are taught in English. My GPA is 3.6, it ranks number 9 in the 115 students in my grade. And I’ve passed 15 exams in CGA, I anticipate I will get the CGA qualification in 20xxx.

　　Besides having good academic performance, I was actively involved in student activities. I was in charge of Student Welfare in my class, and in the Student Union of our school. I enjoyed this position because what I did was very important to everybody, although it was mostly small details.
